If you and your partner struggle with fertility, talk to your doctor about using Novarel intramuscular injections. The team of fertility experts at Hann’s Fertility Pharmacy can answer any questions concerning this medication.
What Is Novarel?
Novarel is an injectable fertility medication that stimulates egg production and release in healthy ovaries. Novarel is a gonadotropin drug — this hormone causes the ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone, initiating an egg release. This drug can help women with trouble producing enough eggs have a successful pregnancy.
Safety Information for Novarel Injections
Novarel fertility medication can be injected at home with proper education and training. As a rule of thumb, Novarel shouldn’t be used if you have had a prior allergic reaction to this hormone. Discuss your allergen information, current medications and health history with your doctor before receiving your first dose.
Before taking Novarel, you should also be aware of potential side effects. Novarel can cause mild to serious side effects. If you experience headaches, irritability, restlessness, fatigue, swelling and pain at the injection site, these effects are considered mild and common. However, if Novarel stimulates the ovaries too much, this can facilitate ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Call your doctor immediately if you have severe pelvic pain, vomiting, nausea, trouble breathing, sudden weight gain, diarrhea or decreased urination.
Step-By-Step Novarel Injection Instructions
Novarel medication is injected into the muscle for proper administration. For a more detailed description of instructions, please reference our Novarel injection guide.
1. Wash Hands and Gather Supplies
Start the Novarel injection process by washing your hands well with soap and water. Gather all your needed supplies, including the following:
- Vial of Novarel
- Vial of bacteriostatic water packaged with Novarel
- One sterile syringe with one intramuscular needle for mixing and another for the injection
- Alcohol pads
- Rubbing alcohol
- Adhesive bandages
- Gauze
- Sharps disposal container
2. Fill the Syringe With Bacteriostatic Water
Bacteriostatic water is included with Novarel to dilute the solution. Following the detailed instructions in the guide, you must fill the syringe with bacteriostatic water before drawing up Novarel. This step is necessary to increase Novarel’s effectiveness within the body.
3. Mix With Novarel
Next, you must mix Novarel with the bacteriostatic water inside the vial. Gently swirl the vial before drawing the solution back into the syringe for injection.
4. Prepare and Inject Medication
Remove the mixing needle and immediately discard it in the sharps container. Add the intramuscular needle and gently flick the syringe to remove any air bubbles within the solution.
Ask another person for assistance injecting the medication into the upper outer region of the left or right buttock muscle.
5. Dispose of Used Supplies
Once finished, please discard all injection materials into a container to be disposed of at an appropriate collection center.
